The Outdoor Capital of Texas
The City of Buda is located 17 miles south of Austin along the I-35 corridor in beautiful Hays County. Though one of the fastest growing communities in Texas, a stroll downtown on Main Street reveals Buda’s prevalent small town charm.
With proximity to both Austin and San Antonio, our bedroom community merges metropolitan opportunities with rural relaxation. Our dedication to community spirit is demonstrated with festivals year-round such as the nationally known Wiener Dog Races in April and Budafest in December.
Buda was incorporated as a city in 1948. Buda is a Home Rule City governed by Council-Manager form of government. All public servants are elected city-wide and members must reside within the City limits.

City of Buda Emergency Management – On June 30, 2010,Mike Beggs, Emergency Management Coordinator for the City Of Buda, attended the University Medical Center Brackenridge (UMCB) in a wide ranging disaster preparedness drill. The City Of Buda was well received by the UMBC team who was pleased to see us participating. UMCB’s Level I Trauma Center treated victims suffering a variety of traumatic injuries and chemical exposures in a mock disaster event. The scenario for this disaster was an entirely plausible one – a tornado touchdown which had leveled a warehouse used to store chemicals. University Medical Center Brackenridge has historically been at the center of most Central Texas disaster preparedness drills. Coincidentally, the timing of this drill with hurricane Alex bearing down on the Texas/Mexico coast really set the stage making it feel even more like a real disaster. The City of Buda actively participates and hosts emergency drills to enable the City to be more prepared in the event of a unforeseen disaster occurring in our area.
Effective May 4th, 2010 – TXDOT To Make Frontage Roads One-Way in Buda & Kyle – The east side frontage road of IH-35, from FM 2001 in Buda to Kyle Parkway, will convert to one-way northbound while the west side frontage road, from FM 2001 to Kyle Parkway, will convert to one-way southbound. Currently, residents who live along Goforth Road travel north on IH-35’s western access road, crossing over to the northbound entrance ramp at FM 2001. But in May, the one-way frontage roads will tack about 5 – 10 additional minutes onto their commute, requiring either a three-mile u-turn detour to the overpass at south FM 967 (formerly south Loop 1), or a two-mile detour through the residential Sequoya neighborhood and backtracking south again on Cabela’s Drive to the FM 2001 on-ramp.
