Proposition 5 - Parks and Trails

Proposition 5 is for improvements to City Park and various trails as identified in the City Parks, Recreations, Trails and Open Space Master Plan, including public parks and recreational facilities on both the east and west side of the City. Bond money was also used to purchase John D. and Byrd Mims Garison Memorial Park.  

Other improvements include a new Parks and Maintenance building, which has already been constructed 

City Park
City Park will serve as Buda’s signature park and recreation area, providing opportunities for festival gatherings as well as improved service to the community’s everyday needs.  A larger trails system will connect City Park to adjacent green spaces, including Stagecoach Park, Bradfield Village Park and the Downtown Greenbelt, thereby leveraging their shared amenities and creating an expanded recreational network. Project amenities planned for City Park include:

John D. and Byrd Mims Garison Memorial Park
John D. and Byrd Mims Garison Memorial Park is a 39-acre property located north of City Park in Buda.  The Parks and Recreation Commission working with the Proposition 5 Advisory Committee collaborated with Design Workshop in development of the master plan for Garison Park.  The master plan serves as an important tool in outlining the larger vision for the park that will enable thoughtful and efficient implementation through each phase of the design.   The master plan was approved and adopted by the Buda City Council in December 2016.

The plan is available for viewing and includes the following features:

John D. and Byrd Mims Garison Park Master Plan

Parks and Maintenance Building
The new Parks Maintenance Building is a cost-effective and efficient new building to centralize the personnel and equipment for provision of service to Buda's growing park areas. The Building will serve City staff with Parks office space, storage, and shared break room for Public Works and the Parks Maintenance crew. It is equipped for roof-top solar photovoltaics. Construction on the building was completed in January of 2017. The building iswest of the existing Public Works building on Garison Road.
