It’s amazing progress.”
City Manager Kenneth Williams got a firsthand view of the progress being made on the Municipal Site. This is his first time seeing the inside of the building, with the completed steel frame in place.
"Looking at the building and the site, it’s coming into focus as I think the Citizens envisioned it when the Planning Committee started getting together and then City Council started to identify what they wanted, “ said Williams.
“On the inside of the City Hall portion of it, we’re finishing up the walls on the first floor. They’re just in the process of framing the interior walls on the second level,” said Project Manager Ray Creswell.
The second floor will house the administrative offices which includes the City Manager and the Assistant City Managers. The library will be downstairs.
“The library is going to be a very efficient building with the lighting and the structure, the way that it’s built, “ said Williams.
And the same applies to the Public Safety Building.
“They are double siding the walls with dry-wall. They’re just now starting to close up all the walls and get everything lined up. They’re going to start setting up door frames, hopefully in the next week," said Creswell.
“The Public Safety Building will be finished and they should be moved in by November. It’s really coming along."
Meanwhile, the main drive is approximately 70 percent complete. Crews are finishing the bed of the drainage channel and will start finalizing the wall. Once that is done, they will be able to finish out the main drive all the way to Loop Street.
As far as the overall plan in the coming weeks for the Municipal Building….
“They’re going to finish up with Area C which is the City Hall portion of it, go to Area B which is the public space, then straight on into the library,” said Creswell.
