St. David’s HealthCare to open
new emergency center in Buda,
providing 24-hour emergency care
Construction is set to begin in April
(St. David's HealthCare Press Release)
AUSTIN, Texas—St. David’s HealthCare will begin treating patients with medical emergencies in and around Buda, once St. David’s Emergency Center Buda opens in early 2019. Construction begins in April on the sixth freestanding emergency center in Central Texas for St. David’s HealthCare.
St. David’s Emergency Center Buda will serve as an extension of St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, a Level II Trauma Center. The hospital’s emergency department (ED) is the largest volume ED in Central Texas, serving more than 100,000 patients each year.
“As Buda grows, so does its need for advanced, comprehensive emergency care,” Todd Steward, chief executive officer of St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, said. “St. David’s South Austin Medical Center has long been a leader in providing quality healthcare and exceptional outcomes to patients in Central Texas, and this new center will allow us to bring that same level of expertise to the residents of Buda.”
St. David’s Emergency Center Buda, located at 15610 Interstate Highway 35, will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The full-service, free-standing emergency department will be staffed by board-certified physicians and nurses trained in trauma care. It will feature 12 treatment beds; a CT scanner; advanced testing capabilities, including radiological testing; and a medical lab. Patients requiring inpatient care will be transported from the facility to area hospitals.
St. David’s South Austin Medical Center
St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, which is part of St. David’s HealthCare, is a 300-bed acute care facility offering a range of complex specialties and sub-specialties, including a nationally accredited oncology program with the area’s only adult bone marrow transplant program; a trauma program that includes all of the capabilities and programmatic elements of a Level II trauma center to treat the most severely injured and critical patients; a comprehensive cardiac program; full-service maternity and newborn care with Level I and II nurseries; and two full-service emergency centers in the communities of Bee Cave and Bastrop.
