Employee Spotlight Video - Nikki Dykes, Development Coordinator
If you live in Central Texas, you know growth is happening everywhere you look. Development Coordinator Nikki Dykes has the big responsibility of helping to manage Buda’s growth.
“I am under the umbrella of the planning department," said Dykes. I work with planning, engineering, and building. I help developers go through the process of starting with raw land to getting their business up and going.”
Nikki has been working with the City since November of 2012. Over the past seven years, she has moved up the development ladder.
“In 2012 I started as the permit coordinator. With that I was working just solely on building permits. Throughout the years I’ve actually morphed into a development coordinator.”
From zoning to development codes, Nikki says the high standards in place are a result of of community input.
“We’re going by what City Council has laid out, what our residents have laid out with our comprehensive plans and our development codes. All those are not just codes and plans that City staff makes. It’s a vision that council and residents have made. Working with the City of Buda, it’s a hometown feel. A lot of people say that but it’s really true. You have a lot of friendly people. You have people who actually care about what they do. Here at the City we care about what we’re doing. We’re passionate about what we see and the growth and changes that have been going on with the City.”
That hometown feel is part of reason developers are seeking out Buda.
“With the development that we have going on, everyone wants to escape those larger cities and come to a place where people are being passionate about where they live. They want to be a part of that community.”
At the end of the day, Nikki says it comes down to collaboration with multiple City departments, developers and other entities.
“You have the engineers talking, you have development talking, you have public works. There are different facets to each one of those that play an important role with the position I hold. Knowing how each one of those components play in to a part of development and helping guiding people through the process really does help rather than passing people from one department to another.”
