Come learn about the impact that artificial lighting has not only on your electric bills, but on the health of people, plants, and animals in our county.

he "Better Lights for Better Nights" presentation will equip you to make better choices in your home, neighborhood, workplace, etc., allow you space to ask questions and express concerns, and provide educational literature to share with others. This is presented by the Hays Friends of the Night Sky and will take place on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Buda United Methodist Church located at 302 Elm Street, Buda, Texas 78610. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Repurpose Everyday Items Into Gift Wrap!

It is that time of year when we wrap more presents over a few days than we do throughout the entire year. Giving and receiving gifts is an exciting part of the holiday season, but it is important to think about what is happening to all that wrapping paper.

Each year, more than 8,000 tons of wrapping paper (equivalent of about 50,000 trees) are used to wrap presents and most of that paper is not recycled. Also, about 114,000 tons of plastic packaging will be thrown away, not recycled, during the holiday. To reduce waste (and save money!) I have provided some tips for repurposing everyday items into gift wrap and decoration.
