“Lights Out Texas” is a state-wide effort from March 1 – May 31 to turn off outdoor lighting from 11 pm – 6 am to reduce light pollution and to help save migrating birds. Each year, many migrating birds are killed in urban areas as they become disoriented by light pollution and run into structures like buildings. Billions of birds migrate through Texas each year. It is estimated that one out of every three migrating birds in the United States flies through Texas annually.
The “Lights Out Texas” initiative falls under the City of Buda’s goal of becoming a Dark Sky Community from the International Dark Sky Association. We invite you to join in the effort by taking the pledge to turn off your lights for #lightsoutbuda!
